One of the funniest things about Dee Dee's "rap" misadventure is that it's as if he subconsciously knew he was trying his hand at something he was hopelessly ill-qualified for. In this song he becomes a pro-wrestler, and in "Commotion in the Ocean" he makes an attempt at competitive surfing, and in both cases he realises when it's all too late that he's out of his depth and doesn't have a clue what he's doing - sort of like what happened with his "rap" career. "Got this nutty idea in my head..." But while Dee Dee was very far from being "the master of hip-hop", "Standing in the Spotlight" is an entertaining album, and this is by far its high point. It's brilliant and hilarious and displays Dee Dee's songwriting nous and endearing eccentricity.

I wasn't there so I don't know what happened and people say this and that in interviews over the years. I saw a video where Clem said he was asked to join on Tuesday and played the first show on the Friday..... if thats a fact he must have known the songs pretty well already to even consider saying yes. It would probably take a while for a new band member to get comfortable with the on stage sound set up with a new band. I've never had the pleasure of having my own sound crew but to jump into a band and start playing live so quickly....and the Ramones don't exactly have long breaks between songs to noodle around with sound. Top that off with band members that don't speak that is one hell of a situation to jump into.

I love Dee Dee. He's a musical genius, but this Dee Dee King material should've never seen the light of day. He was surrounded by hangers-on and leeches and was easily led. For all his street smarts, Dee Dee had an almost child like naivety about him that made him vulnerable. The person he always seemed to hurt the most was himself. He deserved better, and he should still be with us making everyone smile the way he always did. R.I.P. Douglas.

It's a no for me. Good drummer but if I wanted album-speed I'd listen to a studio album. Live Ramones is all about the high energy.

Clem did it like a real professional drummer in studio tempo, just unfortunately Johnny wanted the band to just speed away at a higher tempo without having to be that accurate. Clem did a great job for practicing the songs just under a week before having to play.
